144. MENTAL PRAYER

Pope Benedict. XIV., in his Bull Quamadmodum of Dec. 16, 1746, granted -
A plenary indulgence once a month, to all the faithful who make mental prayer devoutly for half an hour, or at least a quarter of an hour a day; to be gained on that day when, after Confession and Communion, they shall pray to God for the Holy Church, &c.


145. TEACHING AND LEARNING MENTAL PRAYER.

The same Pope Benedict XIV., in the above-named Bull, granted -
i. A plenary indulgence, once a month, as well to those who frequently teach, either in public or private, the way to meditate or make mental prayer, as to those who frequently learn it; to be gained on the day when, being penitent, they shall, after Confession and Communion, pray for time Holy Church, &c.
ii. An indulgence of seven years and seven quarantines, every time that, being truly penitent, and after Confession and Communion, they teach or are present at the instruction on meditation.
